The Security Camera Trap: Introducing SourceBox Sentinel
For too long, the world of home security has been a binary choice: you either settle for a "do-it-yourself" system that is a nightmare to configure and access remotely, or you hand over the keys to your private life to a corporate cloud provider.
The "Cloud Camera" promised convenience, but it came with a hidden price: your footage became a product. Your data lives on their servers, your privacy depends on their policies, and your access depends on their subscription fees.
We believe your security should be an asset, not a liability.
Today, we are introducing SourceBox Sentinel—a private, intelligent security system designed to give you the convenience of the cloud without the surrender of your sovereignty.
Welcome to SourceBox Sentinel.
From basic camera streaming and management to a fully automated agentic security guard!
The Architecture of Sovereignty: CloudNode & Command Center
Sentinel is not a typical "cloud camera." It is a two-component ecosystem designed to keep the power on your premises.
1. The CloudNode: Your Local Fortress
The heart of the system is the CloudNode. Installed on your own hardware (from a Raspberry Pi to a dedicated home server), the CloudNode handles the heavy lifting locally.
Local Recording: All footage is recorded directly to your own encrypted disk.
Local Intelligence: Motion detection and analysis happen on your hardware.
Zero-Leak Privacy: Your recordings never leave your CloudNode. We don't hold your video; we don't analyze your life. If the cloud goes down, your security stays up.
2. The Command Center: Your Global Window
The Command Center provides the professional-grade interface you expect from modern software. It allows you to monitor your cameras from anywhere in the world via an encrypted HTTPS stream.
The critical difference? The Command Center doesn't act as a warehouse for your data. It maintains a rolling 60-second live buffer in memory just for viewing. The cloud is the window; your hardware is the vault.
Beyond Monitoring: The AI Edge
Sentinel is not just about watching; it’s about understanding. By integrating the Model Context Protocol (MCP), we have turned a passive security system into an active AI asset.
Natural Language Control Through our MCP implementation, you can connect AI tools like Claude Code or Cursor directly to your cameras. Instead of scrubbing through hours of footage, you can simply ask: "Are any cameras offline?" or "Show me the front door camera."
The Sentinel AI Agent For our Pro users, we’ve introduced the Sentinel AI Agent. This is an autonomous investigator that doesn't just alert you to motion—it analyzes it. The agent views the event, decides if it warrants your attention, and files a comprehensive incident report with snapshot evidence, filtering out the noise so you only see what matters.
Agentic Security.
Sentinel AI is your very own intelligent and independent personal security guard.
Verifiable Privacy, Not Promised Privacy
We don't ask you to trust us—we invite you to audit us. Sentinel is open-source under the AGPL-3.0 license.
From the AES-256-GCM encryption that seals your footage to the disk using your device's unique machine ID, to the lack of hidden telemetry and ad networks, every line of code is transparent. You can verify with a single grep that your data isn't being sold or check out the Sentinel Command platform repository.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This repository is a cloud product, so it’s not built to run locally but still publicly available to you anyways for transparency. What you download is the camera node which can run 100% locally OR connect to the command center as well as Home Assistant.
